Special Topics in Dance: the gumboot dance, Cape town, South Africa

This course is designed to introduce students to South African culture, specifically traditional and gumboot dancing. It will also expose students to the teaching methods of brain-compatible dance education and how to create/ teach creative movement lesson plans to children in South Africa. This experience will culminate in a community performance collaboration between students and the children of a Youth Project in Cape Town, South Africa.
Classes will be held daily at the projects facility. During the course students will also get broader knowledge of South-African culture, history and wildlife. Guided sight visits will be held to historic landmarks and cultural importance in Cape Town. A weekend Safari is included in the program as well as a penguin kayaking trip.

Extra info

Academics: Daily classes based on reciprocal learning held at the youth project. Lecture on the history of professional dance in South Africa. African Dance theatre Show, The students will teach dance at a local School.
Cultural: Guided tour & museum visits in and around Cape town township,weekend Safari.
Academics: Hostel (4 persons a room ,ensuite bathroom) including breakfast.
